Protect Yourself From West Nile Virus

Information Provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
🦟 What to Know:
Â
West Nile virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Most people have no symptoms, but some may develop fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, or a rash. Rarely, the illness can become severe.
Â
Help prevent mosquito bites:
- Use an EPA-registered insect repellent.
- Wear long, loose-fitting clothing outdoors.
- Avoid being outside from dusk to dawn, when mosquitoes are most active.
- Keep windows and doors screened—or use air conditioning.
- Empty standing water from flowerpots, buckets, gutters, toys, and other containers around your home.
Â
Seek immediate medical care for high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, confusion, muscle weakness, tremors, or paralysis.
